The Turkish culture moment is his! Kerem Bürsin was born in Turkey, in 1987 and because of his father’s work, he has already gone to more than five different countries. It brought him a pretty strong cultural perception, which explains a lot about the human being he is.
I write this article in first person because it is a subject that I master and I am proud to speak with confidence that Kerem is a world-famous actor and is loved for being a man with a great heart, sensibility, and empathy, something we see less often nowadays. Writing about male figures is not an Entretê pattern, nor the writer who speaks to you, but today we are opening an exception.
Who is Kerem Bürsin, what’s his story, and what makes him so special?
After spending some time in the United States, where he majored in Marketing — an area that provided him a huge notion of the market —, Kerem decided to listen to his heart and follow his intuition.
Since he was young, he was already passionate about acting, so he decided to dive for once into this dream and faced his parents, who didn’t believe that much in his career. He had a moonlighting job as a security guard, driver, janitor… and paid himself for his drama classes. We can already see he is a hard-working man so far. But wait, there’s still so much to talk about.

The fact of having been to so many countries and cultures made Kerem a non-standard Turkish man. I say this because Turkey is a sexist country, where men cherish for for their well-being and put themselves in first place, besides being a country with a totalitarian government that preserves man’s honor, leaving aside many important guidelines like women’s rights, freedom of speech and social and environment policies.
There, it is very hard seeing men who defend female topics and it is due to the culture. Kerem could be one more Turkish man, like many around, but no: his path, upbringing, and experiences made him see the human being and the world beyond. He is the kind of man who seats to give a lecture and makes a point of talking about logging, violence against women and animals, and the importance of the vote — and maybe that’s why he bothers some people so much — and good thing, because it’s about that!
A little about Bürsin acting: from Andy Flynn to Serkan Bolat, the great landmark of his career
Kerem’s official debut in the acting world was in the movie Sharktopus (2010), in the role of Andy Flynn. After a few more experiences that guaranteed he was born for art, and after the end of Palace of Damned’s shooting in 2013, Kerem decided to return to Turkey, temporarily until then. Little did he know he would stay until these days, once his instincts were more than right.

Still in 2013, he made his debut in the dizi Güneşi Beklerken and after that, there were many projects: the Unutursam Fısılda (2014) movie and the Şeref Meselesi (2014) drama, which got him a Rising Star of the Year at the GQ Award in 2014. In 2017 he was in Bu Şehir Arkandan Gelecek, as Ali Smith, the character who got him his first international recognition as Best Actor at the Seoul International Drama Awards.
But it was in 2020 that his world fame rightly arrived: Serkan Bolat was a character who touched people who have watched Sen Çal Kapımı. The dizi starring Kerem Bürsin and Hande Erçel arrived at an opportune time: the pandemic. People were at home and needed to find a refuge You Knock On My Door supplied feelings that were missing at that time, the biggest one was love.

The dizi’s global success is due to the fact that Hande and Kerem surrendered themselves completely to two characters who had catchy life stories befitting reality. Serkan and Eda were two people who could easily be friends or acquaintances on our day-to-day and the differential for such success was, actually, the fact that both actors had found love in the set, bringing even more feelings to the public. Besides being in love in the series, they were also in real life, and it brought even more truth and authority to the dizi.
I could spend hours convincing you why Sen Çal Kapımı is a success. Just to have an idea, currently, the dizi is being reprised in Turkey, two years after its end, and continues with a record audience, surpassing the newest dizis. If I may say so, Kerem perhaps did not expect SO MUCH success and this global reach. It happened very naturally, because, on stage, everything was really true, as well as his interest in the causes, something very difficult to see among Turkish men and women. The most incredible thing is to see him using his fame for these causes, so they can reach everyone.

Handsome, talented, owner of his own production company — BraveBorn Films — responsible for an admirable curriculum, is passionate about the profession and the guidelines on the environment… This is the moment that I, as a feminist and owner of this portal that you are reading, step out of my comfort zone to reinforce my admiration for this man, because he really deserves it. Kerem is HeForShe’s ambassador to Turkey, a solidarity campaign that defends women’s rights initiated by UN Women in 2014. Knowing that Kerem exists to be a spokesman for other men to look at the agendas related to Turkish women, who need to be heard and defended, is exciting.
In addition to all this love for the Turkish and his intelligence with words, in a recent interview with L’Officiel Türkiye, Kerem comments on how social networks negatively impact the understanding of love today:
“We are in a period where every second we feel insufficient. We are surrounded by messages like ‘You are not good enough, you are not beautiful, you are not in shape’ and we are constantly led to feel insufficient. In bilateral relationships, we often feel insufficient on the other side. But we are enough, we just need to remember to love unconditionally, maybe we need to learn again from the beginning“.
About his career currently, Kero (as he is affectionately called by fans), has been working on the summer dizi Ya Çok Seversen, by the producer Ay Yapim. He plays Ateş, a man who lived part of his life in boarding school after his mother’s death, preventing him from having contact with his family. After spending years alone abroad and trusting no one, he returns to Turkey after the recent death of his father. In the will, his father has put the custody of his three children with his second wife, Müge, in the hands of Ates, and now he must face a new life, with hits brothers around him.

During the development of the series, we see Ateş soften his heart and be enchanted by the children, mainly with the great help of Leyla (Hafsanur Sancaktutan) who is part of a false marriage gang. Ah, of course, we have a love story! Ateş may seem harsh, but his feelings for Leyla come to a head when she discovers that they are not so different, with somewhat harsh pasts.
Kerem’s character won the heart of fans, especially Latinos, who have a very special affection for the Turkish actor. On Twitter, dizi has been appearing in current affairs every week, especially on Thursdays, the day it is broadcast live. According to Somera — a technology company that provides insights for companies — Ya Çok Seversen was the third and most commented dizi program on social networks on August 17, with its 7th episode. This shows how dizi and the actor are popular and loved on social media.

And speaking of social networks…. We have no more doubts that Kerem Bürsin is an admirable and necessary man for the world and for our lives. The proof of this is what the fans say about him. To produce this agenda, I studied a little about Kerem’s life and asked the fans the following questions: “What do you love most about him? I did not imagine that this tweet would take the proportion that it took and, in the end, became a center of love statements for our dear Turkish. How fortunate that the Turks have Kerem Bürsin! I wish that this enlightened human being with a kind and welcoming heart can inspire more and more people, especially other men, to be better people.
