Both awards are voted on by the Grammy Latin Academy Board of Trustees.

The honorees will be celebrated at a private event as part of Latin Grammy Week on Wednesday, November 16, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Eduardo Osorio will return as executive producer along with the Latin Grammy Academy production team.

Check out the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award Honorees:

Rosario Flores (Spain)

Since the beginning of her remarkable career, this Spanish pop phenomenon has added elegance and understatement to all her performances, whether it’s a rock ballad, an authentic Catalan rumba, or a joyful love song. Born in Madrid into one of Spain’s most iconic musical families, she began recording music at a young age and enjoyed the tutelage of her older brother, singer/songwriter Antonio Flores, on albums such as 1994’s Siento. A year after his tragic death, Rosario’s moving tribute to his memory, “Qué Bonito,” became one of his biggest hits. In 2002, a role in Pedro Almodóvar’s masterpiece Talk To Her showed her versatility as a performer, which also shines on her most recent album, the exuberant Te Lo Digo Todo Y No Te Digo Na from 2021.

Myriam Hernández (Chile)

One of Chile’s most influential and commercially successful singer/songwriters, Myriam Hernández emerged in the late 1980s and has left a deep mark on contemporary romantic music. Following the success of El Hombre Que Yo Amo from her 1990 album Dos, La Baladista de América – as she is affectionately known – has been creating hit after hit thanks to her “amyrianado” style, juxtaposing delicate, nocturnal moods with the inherent passion of her delivery. Hernández has collaborated with respected artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Marco Antonio Solís, Cristian Castro, and Paul Anka, as well as establishing herself as a respected television personality.

Rita Lee (Brazil)

Rita Lee is one of the best-selling singers and songwriters in Brazilian history, a visionary artist whose unique sound identity blends ballad pop, MPB, bossa and new wave. She began her career with the band Os Mutantes, and recorded albums with the backing band Tutti Frutti, including the 1975 album Fruto Proibido. In 1979, she released the legendary Rita Lee LP in partnership with her husband, multi-instrumentalist Roberto de Carvalho, and their collaborations continued throughout the 1980s with a long string of radio hits and sold-out shows. In later decades, she began to step out of her comfort zone with acoustic recordings like Here, There, Anywhere, a collection of live songs based on Beatles covers.

 Amanda Miguel (Argentina)

Born in the province of Chubut, Argentina, Amanda Miguel studied music in Buenos Aires, where she met singer/songwriter Diego Verdaguer, her future husband and creative partner. With Verdaguer as producer, Miguel released

a visionary trilogy of concept albums known as El Sonido between 1981 and 1984. Recorded in Los Angeles with top session musicians, the albums connected with lovers of torrid ballads, spawning massive hits like Así No Te Amará Jamás. In 1992 she released Rompecorazones, a sophisticated excursion into ranchera territory, followed four years later by the pop blockbuster Ámame Una Vez Más. In a career that now spans more than four decades, her passion for music continues with her 2022 Siempre Te Amaré tour with her daughter Ana Victoria.

Yordano (Venezuela)

Italian-born Venezuelan singer/songwriter Yordano has infused Latin music with his poetic vision through a delicate and constantly evolving songbook of cosmopolitan pop, tropical idioms and romantic ballads. After graduating in architecture, he began his musical career in 1978 as lead singer of the band Sietecuero. His second solo album, Yordano, from 1984, and the song Manantial de Corazón, made him an international sensation. His subsequent LPs boasted memorable radio hits, such as Locos de Amor in 1988 and the social commentary song Por Estas Calles four years later. In 2016, he revisited his catalog on El Tren de los Regresos, with special appearances by Carlos Vives, Kany García, and other prominent artists.

2022 Curators Award Honorees:

Manolo Díaz (Spain)

After a decades-long career in the music industry, Manolo Díaz invested his experience as a singer, songwriter and socially conscious record label executive in his role as senior vice president and now board member of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, where he served for more than seven years. He was an active participant in the Spanish rock wave of the 1960s in his native country as guitarist for Los Sonor, and later writing and producing hits for Los Bravos and Aguaviva. In the 1970s, Díaz transitioned into a respected career as a music executive at CBS, Sony, IFPI and UMG, working closely with such luminaries as Julio and Enrique Iglesias, Raffaella Carrá, Juanes, Carlos Vives and others.

Paquito D’Rivera (Cuba)

Winner of nine Grammys and five Grammys, Cuban saxophonist and composer Paquito D’Rivera has enriched the contemporary Latin music landscape with his sense of humor and artistic elegance. He was a founding member of the progressive Cuban supergroup Irakere in the 1970s. After a move to the United States in 1980, he created the United Nations Orchestra with the legendary Dizzy Gillespie, merging Afro-Caribbean styles with jazz. As a soloist, D’Rivera has performed with symphony orchestras around the world, advocating the inclusion of Latin American composers in the classical repertoire.

Abraham Laboriel (Mexico)

Born in Mexico City, Abraham Laboriel first learned guitar from his father before switching to bass. It was composer Henry Mancini who advised Laboriel to move to Los Angeles in search of session work, and after an international tour with singer Al Jarreau, he cemented his reputation as a technically superb player who could easily adapt to any style. Much admired in the jazz community, he has worked with such greats as Ella Fitzgerald and Herbie Hancock, and has also become a favorite bass player for Latin stars including Julio Iglesias, Rubén Blades, and José José.

In an interview with Entretetizei, Junny told a little more about her entry into the music industry and about her expectations with the tour.

Check out our chat with Junny:

Entretetizei: First of all, we would like to thank you for the interview.

Where did your interest in music come from? Did it come naturally, or did you have any encouragement or inspiration?

Junny: I was always singing around the house ever since I was a little boy, eventually learning how to play the guitar and writing songs for my highschool crush lol when I graduated highschool I realized music was the only thing that stuck by me my whole life so I decided to go that path. Choosing music as a career isn’t the safest route to take but thanks to my older brother I was able to gain confidence and he really helped me stay motivated and committed to my craft!

E: What was it like to debut in 2017 in the boom of the South Korean music industry?

J: It’s a bit different for me because my actual debut was in 2020! I was still in Canada when I released music in 2017 and it was all independent during that time. I think the biggest reason for me to come to Korea was because of the “boom” in the South Korean industry. To be honest I’m just thankful for the timing and if it wasn’t for the decision to move to Korea at that time, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

E: What were the biggest challenges you faced at the time?

J: I think it was the environment, living in a small studio with barely any room to sleep and clothes to hang, all I literally did was make music and dreaming for a better life. I knew at the time this was what I signed up for but being away from home and no one to rely on it was one of the biggest challenges I had to overcome.

E: Since the release of his single Thank You, the growth of his musical abilities has been visible. What is the process of creating your music? Do you follow any ritual at the time of production?

J: For me it’s all about the vibes in the studio. When writing my album I wanted everything to be true to myself with my own experiences so my team and I would constantly talk about life, what I’ve been through and certain moments that came to mind. I think that’s what my album “blanc” is all about and it definitely makes this the most personal album I’ve ever worked on.

E: We can’t talk about your career without mentioning JungKook, from BTS. What was it like to have been noticed by one of the biggest names in K-Pop (and one of today’s greatest artists)?

J: It was insane!!! At first I couldn’t believe it. The fact that he knew my song and watching him sing along to “By My Side” was such a heartwarming moment.. It was also my birthday that day (coincidence for sure) but it sure made a great birthday gift LOL.

E: And it wasn’t just JungKook who noticed your talent, was it?! What was it like to compose for artists like IU, Baekhyun (from EXO), Kai and Suho?

J: I’m just so thankful for these opportunities and it definitely became my biggest achievements as a songwriter. These amazing artists inspire me everyday and I think that’s what motivates me to strive as an artist. I’ll forever be grateful for being able to be a part of their albums!! It’s an indescribable feeling.

E: His most recent work was the single Color Me, a partnership with Chung Ha. What was it like to work with the artist and how did the feat come about?

J: This project was in the works for along time since I was working on my album, I wanted to try a different style and my long time songwriting friend MinGtion and I wrote a demo for this song and the moment it was finished I fell in love with it. I thought CHUNG HA being on the song as a feature would be the greatest thing ever and luckily, through MinGtion we were able to send over the demo and thankfully CHUNG HA liked the song as well!

E: Is there an artist who is your dream of a perfect feat?

J: I don’t think I can just name one artist to be honest I’d love to work with anyone that I can share a vibe with! I’m always open to work and searching for new artists and hopefully I’ll be able to continue on working with these talented artists around the world!

E: Now, five years after your debut, you are embarking on your first North American tour. What are your expectations?

J: Since it’s my first ever tour, I’m expecting to learn and have lot’s and lot’s of fun. I want to give a great show to my fans who are coming to watch me perform for the first time and I’m just so excited to finally see them in person <3

E: Do you want to expand your tour to other countries, which may include Brazil?

J: Of course! I’d love to perform all over the world if the schedule and timing is right!! I can’t forget about my fans in Brazil they show me so much love and hopefully we’ll be able to see each other very soon! 🙂

E:  I saw that there is a movement of Brazilian fans on your social networks. How do you get that affection from fans who are literally on the other side of the world?

J: It’s a blessing. Truly a blessing to be loved by fans across the world just because of my music. I feel like the best I can do for them right now is to be healthy, put out great music for them to enjoy and be the best version of myself! My fans are my biggest motivation for sure.

E: What message would you like to leave for your Brazilian fans?

J: To my lovely fans in Brazil, I just wanna say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continuous love and support, I’ll do my best to bring a show to you very soon so in the meantime I hope you enjoy my upcoming album “blanc” and I love you so much!! Eu te amo! <3 ( I hope that’s correct )

E: Finally, what are Junny’s next steps as an artist? Are you planning to release an album, new single, work as a producer, or embark on a new tour?

J: Yes! Yes & Yes! my upcoming album “blanc” is coming very soon so stay tuned and I have much more music coming along the way. Also I am going on a North American tour in September! I feel like this is a new chapter for me and I hope to bring you more great news in the future!! Thank you so much for this interview and see you all very soon! 🙂

Check out our chat with CAMO:

Entretetizei: Firstly, Entretetizei would like to thank you for granting this interview.

Please tell us a little about your process of entering the South Korean music market.

CAMO: Hey Entretetizei! Thanks for making time for this interview.

My current label 502 hit me up for distribution. They found my songs on Soundcloud and loved what they heard. I hit it off with the team and it’s been smooth sails since!

E: What was it like to debut as a rapper in a medium that is normally dominated by men?

C: There’s always been bad bitch female artists that I’ve looked up to, so honestly it felt natural.

E: Who are your inspirations, whether in rap or music?

C: These days it’s Ocatavian hehe

E: Your song “Wifey” is also the name of your tour. How was the creation process for the song? Were you able to participate closely in the production?

C: Yes, of course. I’ve participated in making the beat with 6ixxx and the others, and wrote the lyrics and melodies all by myself. I just wanted to make a light melodic song and asked 6ixxx if he could make one. He made a slight draft and I hopped on immediately, then developed the beat.

t like to perform for the first time in Europe? Did you expect it to be so well received by your fans? How was the whole experience?

C: I never expected the hospitality. Everyone was super sweet and nice and the energy was CRAZYYY. It was actually my first big performance and I’m so grateful that I got to perform in front of the best crowd on my first shot.

E: Now you are embarking on a tour, heading to North America with six shows spread across Canada and the United States, what are your expectations?

C: I hope I do well haha and hope I don’t let anyone down.

E:  Do you want to visit other countries, such as Brazil?

C: Yes, of course!! I’ve seen a lot of fans on twitter that live in Brazil and they are all so nice and sweet, always sending me lots of love and support. I would loveee to visit Brazil.

E:  In a short career time you have already managed to collaborate with some artists, but is there someone who is your dream collaborator? Not only in music, but also in production?

C: Yes, but that’s a secret cuz I’m gonna make it one day. hehe

E:  What will be your next steps after the North American tour? Do you want to release more songs, albums or new dates for the tour?

C: I will be releasing a mixtape that you’ve never expected! Then, I’m gonna go chill and spend some money.

E: What advice would you give to women who dream of entering the South Korean music industry and, especially, embarking on rap?

C: I hope they focus on their music because if music is your strength, being a woman will become a big advantage point.

E: What message would you like to leave for your Brazilian fans and the people who cheer for you?

C:  I’m so grateful for all of you! You guys give me so much motivation and love, and y’all really make me want to become a better artist. I will never forget that. Sending lots of love and hope to see you soon <3

Interview | Sam Kim talks about his first dance track, career and plans for 2022

The singer talked about the process of creating his first “dance” song produced by DJ R3HAB

For those tuned into South Korean pop culture and the soundtracks of the country’s most famous dramas, the name and figure of Sam Kim is already well known. Sam Kim is an American-Korean singer, songwriter, and guitarist who became well-known after participating in the 2013-2014 season of the talent show K-Pop Star.

After the success of his participation in the show, Sam Kim released the first part of his debut EP, My Name Is Sam, in 2016. After the release, Sam’s career took off in a big way, where in the same year, the singer released his first OST, Who Are You, which was part of one of the most famous dramas, Goblin.

Always flirting with the R&B style, he surprised fans by releasing this Friday (7), his long-awaited single Smile, a song with a more danceable rhythm, different from all the songs already released by the artist.

Produced by DJ R3HAB, Smile is already available on all major music platforms, such as Spotify, Melon, iTunes, Amazon Music, and Youtube.

Want to know more about the creation process of the single Smile? This and other questions Sam Kim answered in an interview to Entretê. Check it out:

Interview: Sam Kim

Entretetizei: Firstly, congratulations on your new release! Can you describe how your writing/production process went for this project?

Sam Kim: Thank you so much! At first I wrote the song with a guitar; like I usually do. Then I sent it over to R3HAB and he worked his magic over it to completely transform it from the original. Very fun process!

E: How did your collaboration with R3HAB come about?

S: My team showed me his music and I really liked it. I was curious what would come out if we worked together.

E: What is one interesting backstory behind a song that fans may not know about?

S: Usually you record in the songs original bpm (time), but for this song my producer Simon Pétren and I thought it’d be interesting to record it in a slower bpm and speed it back up to the original. What you hear is that effect.

E: What message did you want to communicate to listeners with this track?

S: Sam Kim got funk!

E: If you could describe your upcoming track in one word, what would it be?

S: Funkadellic.

E: You’ve gained a huge listening and fan base for your talents to convey emotional stories in tracks such as “Love Me Like That” while showing your versatility during R&B tunes like “These Walls”. What made you decide to now venture into creating your first dance music track? How did you find the experience?

S: This actually wouldn’t be my first dance track! I have a song called ‘Dance’ and a song called ‘The Juice’ which I actually danced too. Overall even though they were all slightly out of my comfort zone I had a lot of fun writing and singing them.

E: Did you have any fears about diving into a new genre other than R&B and K-Pop?

S: Not at all! I love exploring new genres, I think there’s always something to learn in each one. I have yet to learn my lesson in heavy metal though. That’s for another time.

E: As a musician, how does it feel working a dance music track when you have mostly worked on ballads, acoustics with your guitar?

S: It was really refreshing to step out of my bubble for a little bit and dive into unfamiliar grounds. I end up learning and growing the most in these situations.

E: ‘The Juice’ was such a fun song and perfect for the middle of summer. You have truly mastered the R&B genre. What is a genre you want to try next? Which genres do you like listening to in your day-to-day?

S: I would love to get into hip-hop. Though I don’t have the voice or delivery of a rapper, I really do enjoy listening to the stories of rappers with those qualities. Kendrick is my go-to.

E: We have to also talk about your viral OST ‘Love Me Like That’ for the popular K-drama ‘Nevertheless’. What was your response when you realized that it had become such a hit?

S: I remember writing this song a few years back when I was going through a rough time and it’s probably why I never thought to give it a chance. When I saw how many people could relate to the song the doubt went away and I think the 20 year old me who wrote it finally felt accepted.

E: ‘Love and Relationships’ are the broad themes in a lot of your music and OSTs. What do you think it is about music that elevates a drama or movie further, since you’ve lent your voice to so many memorable OSTs?

S: Even though I can’t see the scenes my OSTs will play in beforehand, I try my hardest to read the story in the lyrics and deliver the emotions to the best of my ability. I ask the songwriter lots of questions such as should I sing this phrase a little softer? More powerful, sad? etc… The songwriters behind every such decision are the real MVPs.

E: You have worked and collaborated with a variety of artists. From Zico to pH-1 and Crush, are there any other Korean artists you like listening to nowadays or have been inspired by and would like to collaborate with them in the future?

S: So many! I would love to do something with BTS as a songwriter, and collab with BiBi as an artist.. so many talented people to draw inspiration from.

E: Can you recommend some songs that you enjoy listening to these days?

S: Silk Sonic. Anything by them. Being a long time fan of both Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars.. this project to me is a dream come true. A specific song I listen to when I feel like nothing’s going right is Park Hyo Shin’s – Breath. It never fails to remind me that I’m not alone.

E: What do you like to do in your spare time? What is your hobby?

S: Love playing good ol’ fashioned FPS games. Lately however I’m more into single player adventure games with a nice story to dive into.

E: You saw the globally popular “Squid Game” drama, correct? If you could excel at one challenge, which would it be and why?

S: With most of the games being based on luck the only game I’m confident in is Red Light, Green Light. Mama told me never to fall for and chase after a girl who can spin her head 180 degrees and kill on sight but you know, love will prevail and all that.

E: As we enter the New Year, what is your main goal for 2022 and what would you like to show fans next?

S: I can’t say because I don’t want to jinx it but I do have lots planned! It’s finally my year, the year of the Tiger and I want to make it meaningful!

E:  Can you please share some words of love for your global fans?

S: Thank you so much for all the support. Every each and one of you push me to be a better me and also show me love that I sometimes forget to give myself. I wish you all health and happiness in these rough times and I will see you all very soon.
